The "Kapotis" property is located in Western Greece, in the Acarnanian Mountains and specifically in Kompotades Xiromerou of Aetoloakarnania at 500-600 meters altitude. The farm is ideal for visiting with original ideas for alternative tourism and life in nature. It is an ideal place for relaxation and for activity to be performed and walks away from the stress of everyday life.
The farm consists of:
Furnished accommodation residences for guests.
Specifically there are three houses built with ashlar stone and wood, traditional architecture with respect to the environment.
The apartments feature fully equipped kitchens with all appliances and outdoor grill (barbecue) allowing guests to prepare the meals of preference with organic and fresh local produce.
Each house has mountain view and under construction barrier of straw in the lake of 3200 acres of the plateau. The interventions made both for the construction of buildings and for the establishment of the vineyard were minimized, and the goal was the protection and promotion of the natural ambient. The houses are located inside the Vineyard - Farm with natural vegetation around. Nature is unique. Where the vines end, the Akarnanian mountain flora begins, with continuous and extensive stands of deciduous and evergreen trees and shrubs.
Vineyard: the place where according to the rules of organic agriculture 10 noble European and Greek varieties of white and red grapes are cultivated. Agiorgitiko is the main variety of red grapes cultivated in the vineyard and in a smaller area the Xinomavro variety is cultivated, Syrah, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. From the white varieties the Malagouzia which is the indigenous variety of Acarnania is prevalent in the vineyard and cultivated in smaller areas the varieties Chardonnay, Moshofilero, Assyrtiko and Robola. The rocky limestone soil of Xiromeros, enriched with rich forest humus, good sunshine, cool mountain microclimate and the traditional culture with the rules of organic agriculture, guarantee the production of grapes with excellent quality characteristics.
The winery is built on four levels hilltop farm and consists of 2 basements, ground floor and a tower, all built of carved stone from the area.
The wine is made with the most modern winemaking machinery made of stainless steel (inox) for cleanliness and hygiene reasons, in line with global standards.
Bottling - wine cellar maturation. The maturing of the wines is done in oak barrels and stainless steel tanks in the basement with a natural temperature of 10-16 C. The farm currently bottles and sells two types of wines made from the produced organic grapes, the Oineas (red) and Toryvia (white) which are certified as organic by Iris Organization.
Activities at the Farm
Day 1
After our arrival, and throughout our stay, we have the opportunity to tour the vineyard and the winery as well as to monitor and participate in the wine making process and of course taste the unique quality and flavour of the winery produced wines. After you settle in apartment-villas, take a walk on the estate to meet get familiarised with the premises.
Day 2
The morning after, we will enjoy our breakfast and then we will start our day with a visit to the ancient city of Toryvia (Kompotades). Very close to the property (4 kilometers) on the hill that rises 500 m. NW of the village Kompoti, who bears the name ‘Castle’ (height 653 m.), are the remains of an ancient fortified Acarnanian city, which many scholars identify with the ancient city Toryveia. Within the city are visible traces densely built houses, which are built with cyclopean masonry and consist of several rooms. Also distinguished are several circular tanks, constructed with rectangular stone plinths.
The market of the city probably located in the center of the fortification. In a small plateau next to this, there is an interesting building, which was characterized by archaeologists as a "holster".
We will return for our meal.
In a close distance there is a fir forest consisting of Kefalonia fir (Abies cephalonica sp). This is a unique place where visitors can walk and hike and enjoy the beauty of nature.
Day 3
The next morning, after the checkout of our rooms, we will be ready for an adventure. Our goal is the river Nissa (Tryfos) and the area of the baths of St. Varvaros. Within walking distance (18 km by road and just 7 km walk), in the village of Tryfos, there are the spas of St. Varvaros. There the natural pools of the River Nissa, which is a hidden paradise with waterfalls, trails and crystal clear waters for those who seek peace and quiet of nature.
For our rest will arrive for lunch in Amfilochia. Amfilochia is a coastal town in the north of the county Aetoloakarnania and more specifically in the innermost point of the bay of the Amvrakikos gulf, built amphitheatrically on two hills. The geographical location of the city contributed to the name "the bride of Amvrakikos." It has a beautiful harbour, lovely beaches and amazing traditional tavernas with wonderful seafood.
From Amfilochia we can begin the journey from their well hidden paradises return full experiences and images that our land holds hidden.
