Church attendance in the Monastery of St. Luke, a place of pilgrimage for thousands of faithful in its visual distinctiveness because of its icons. Located on the picturesque slopes of Helicon in a location where once stood a temple of Demeter Steiritida surrounded by a plateau covered by an olive grove. The landscape has not been altered from residential or other activity and retains its authenticity. Information about the history of the monastery drawn from the life of Saint Luke, anonymous work of 962, and the sequences of the Assumption and of disposing of the corpse, sources considered reliable by archaeologists. According to these figures, founder of monastic life in the monastery is the same Saint, who he lived there for the last seven years of his life (946-953). He was born in Kastri in Fokis in 896, from parents which were refugees from Aegina. Followed early monasticism and at the end of 910 becomes a monk in Athens, then in various retreats in Fokida and the opposite Corinthian coast in Korfos. In 946 he was set on the site of today's monastery and he died in 953.

Orchomenos seems inhabited since the Neolithic period, around 6000 BC. The Great growth came in the early Mycenaean period between 2,000 and 1,200 BC when it was inhabited by Minyes. At that time the region flourished. Characteristic of the high growth of this society is the drainage works carried out then, the first drying of Lake Copaida. Homer makes reference in the Iliad to the wealth of Orchomenus residents. The city participated in the Trojan War with the bosses Ascalaphus and Hyalmeno.
